Your local neighbor needs help after
an illness, job loss, family separation or other unplanned circumstance. Also, some elderly and disabled
residents need help when their limited income doesn't cover an unplanned emergency. A high school junior had four impacted wisdom teeth. The family did not have the money to
have her teeth extracted. KAIR referred her to Community Health and KAIR paid the co-payment. A young mother with a small child was going through a difficult divorce
and struggling to find employment. Her electricity was about to be disconnected. KAIR paid her electric bill,
gave her food and paid for gasoline so she could look for a job. Without electricity the Department of Children and
Families would have taken her child away. A trailer occupied by a small
family burned to the ground. The family needed to find a place to live immediately. They did not have
the money for the security deposit and first month rent. KAIR's counselor assisted the family in finding a place
to live and paid the first month's rent. A local
worker's car broke down. He was unable to get to work. KAIR paid to get the car repaired so he
could go back to work. An elderly man living
on a meager social security payment could not afford his prescription medications. KAIR assisted with his
medications.
